basilica cistern and archaeological museum

September 20, 2015
Here we are waiting to get into the cistern! It was pretty hot and humid and you can definitely tell that we had woken up early and had been traveling all day haha!
Isn't it SO COOL?! It was actually kind of creepy.
It was very dark and the water comes in from the top so occasionally
you would get drips on your head.
There are two Medusa stones that were thought to bring protection since anyone that looked into her eyes would turn to stone. These as well as the bases of all the other columns were reused from other structures.

We had a little checklist of tbongs we had to find in the museum. Here is some of the pottery that was found at Tel Maresha which we actually got to visit on a field trip just south of Jerusalem!
This is the largest anchor in the world!

The Romans loved to show off and make everything big!

These tiles are unreal! We looked forward to going to get some of our own the whole trip!
