spring term

May 23, 2015
The month of May is almost over! How did that even happen??

I ended up staying at school for spring term. That means in about 4 weeks I will have been going to school for a whole 12 months. Insanity. And this whole time I have also been an RA. Sometimes I think I'm crazy for doing it for so long but I really do love it! And honestly, I feel like it is my way of serving and giving back to BYU. It has been an amazing way to get involved and I'm so grateful for the experience I've had. I'm back in Helaman Halls. Definitely different than Heritage, but it's fun nonetheless. I only have 18 girls which is the lowest I've ever had so it's been chill to say the least.

Xavier, the other RA and I, have been doing weekly Wednesday activities with our residents. The first week we played get to know you games and had otter pops, last week we had a moving party!, this week we played family feud, and next week we're having a fire and making s'mores. It's a blast!

Our biggest adventure as a floor was the opportunity we had to move this past week. Yup, we were on one side of the floor for 3 weeks and then we got to move to the other side of the hall. But now, it's a little more permanent and we can actually unpack and decorate and all that jazz.

Classes are pretty relaxed which is nice! I rove on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays so my schedule is set. I get to play in the orchestra for the spring opera, Hansel and Gretel. It has always been a dream of mine to play in the pit for a show so I am pumped!

Most of my friends stayed for spring so it has been a blast to have so many people to hang out with! The weather has been kinda crazy. It's usually sunny and warm in the morning and then there will be a huge thunderstorm with pouring down rain in the afternoon and then sometimes it will keep raining throughout the night and sometimes it just clears right up! It's so bizarre. I've been drenched on more than one occasion for my underestimation of the weather haha!

Social life has included some really good movies, a lot of fun games, late night talks, going to get food, attending the temple and institute, doing homework, watching NBA games, lots of laughing, and just having a grand time. I seriously have the greatest friends in the whole wide world!

Things are already starting to wrap up! One of my classes gets done next in a week and a half, my choir concert and the opera are in 3 weeks, we'll do checkouts before we know it. EFY and sports camps have started to arrive. Summer is upon us!

my life

May 7, 2015
It's always an adventure. Seriously. I can't help but laugh at myself half the time now because I'm just so used to the most ridiculous things happening. all.the.time.

It was a wednesday night and I got done working around 12:15. I was reading the most delightful book and wanted to spend some time reading before I went to bed. I drank a lot of water and knew it was a bad idea but eventually went to bed around 12:45. I woke up around 4 to go to the restroom. In Helaman Halls, we have community bathrooms and my bedroom is right across the hall from the bathroom. I didn't feel like taking my keys to I just put the doorstop in the door. While I'm in there I hear a click. Not like a door opening and closing. Just one click. I knew that could only mean one thing. As I walk back to my room, I see for my own eyes that my speculations were true. My bedroom door had closed with the doorstop still in it. Now what.

I'm wearing a t-shirt and basketball shorts, no shoes, no phone, no ID card, nothin.

Plan A: try to contact Kate (my hall advisor)
Problems with Plan A: it's 4 am and she's probably sleeping, if I leave the building to knock on her front door I won't be able to get back in, I can't get to her back door because it's through the office and I don't have keys

Plan B: wait until the cannon center opens at 8am and get a temporary key
Problems with Plan B: I have to make sure it really does open at 8 or else I won't be able to get back into my building, all the old ladies here for women's conference will probably see me and that's embarrassing

Well I wanted to get some more sleep and so I decided to go down to the basement couches because if I was just in the lobby and someone walked by and saw some random girl sleeping on the couch they would probably either be scared or just be really embarrassed for me

So without a blanket or pillow, I try to get some sleep. It was uncomfortable to say the least. And I could not help but count the hours until I could get someone to help me. And time was just going so darn S L O W.

Around 6:30 I heard a noise. I thought, "Perfect! Christi, the custodial manager is here! She can let me in!" Wrong. It was just one of my girls doing laundry. Why she was up that early, I have no idea.

I felt like any other attempt to get more sleep would be useless so I went back upstairs and sat on the the more comfortable couches in the lobby. I literally just sat there. Contemplating my life and what a crazy story this would be and how my life just always has to be an adventure.

Finally, I hear a door open and in walks Christi! I asked her if she had a master key and she said yes! I totally played it off like I had just been sitting there for only a few minutes. no big deal. ha!

Thank the heavens for Christi! I finally got back in my nice, warm bed and got to catch a few more zzz's before I had to get up and start the day.

Lesson learned:
1. DO NOT trust door stops.
2. always be prepared
3. make the most of each unfortunate event because it might just end up being a good story
