to the north

December 1, 2015
WHO KNEW that Northern Israel was so dang beautiful?? It seriously is like night and day difference from Jerusalem and the South. I almost felt like I was at home.

HAZOR
Best thing about Hazor was...

DAN
It was green and gorgeous and there was a river and we kind of had to hike into the tel. I loved it!

"the golden calf" don't ask questions. the Old Testament says that Jeroboam built altars and high places from Dan to Beersheba, both places we've been to. One at the very north of the land, and one and the very south of the land. It has amazed me this semester as we've learned about these wicked kings and their desire for power how they have created idols and turned away from the true and living God. What is so appealing about worshipping something that is not real or living or who can't help you in any way??

And then there's some kings who took them down. Yay!

CAESAREA PHILIPPI

I love going to those places where you know the Savior was definitely there. Which is basically everywhere here in the Galilee haha! But this one is special because a very important scriptural event happened here.

Matthew 16:15-19
THOU ART THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD

And upon this rock, I will build my church
I have loved learning more about Peter and his conversion and the steps he took to grow closer to Christ. There is a lot we can learn from him and relate to our own lives. He is such a good example of using the atonement and persevering to become more like Christ.

After they left here, they went to the Mount of Transfiguration.

So we literally had like 10 min at this waterfall. They had us run all the way down there, take a quick pic, and then run all the way back up to the bus. I felt like I was on a hike in WA. It was BEAUTIFUL! And I mean, who doesn't love seeing a good waterfall?

Next they dropped us off at an ancient fortress and just let us explore for an hour or so. Not kidding. Sometimes the things we do just seem so unbelievable!

Our last stop of the day was a place called Har Bental. This is on the very northern tip of Israel and you actually get to look over into Syria. The director told us at orientation that we would probably look over and see some ISIS flags, but we didn't. It was still crazy to think that it's such a dangerous place and that wars are happening. We are always so well protected though. All I know is that it was beyond freezing up there and we all huddled together to try and stay warm. Chanise got Jezz and I a hot chocolate to share and it was DIVINE. Hot cocoa never tasted so good.

Out here is the ancient road to Damascus. This is a road that the apostle Paul traveled on many times.
