JORDAN

November 6, 2015
I can't believe it's already been a month since we were in Jordan! It was incredible though! Here's some highlights.

day one:

MT. NEBO
Mt. Nebo is the place where Moses went up to and the Lord showed him all the land. Beacause of the choices of the people, Moses was never actually able to lead them into the Promised Land. This is as far as he got before he was translated. Remember the story of the serpent? All we must do is look to the Savior. It really is that simple.

Helaman 8
14 Yea, did he not bear record that the Son of God should come? And as he lifted up the brazen serpent in the wilderness, even so shall he be lifted up who should come.
15 And as many as should look upon that serpent should live, even so as many as should look upon the Son of God with faith, having a contrite spirit, might live, even unto that life which is eternal.

THis was one of those places that just helped us to get oriented. It's a little hazy but it's safe to say we've seen some incredible views this semester. We came to see the land.

MADABA

This map shows the ancient middle east and specifically Jerusalem with its cardo or center street.

MACHAERUS

Machaerus is the place where John the Baptist was put in prison and killed.
It's a really interesting story in Matthew 14:1-6.
This place is straight up in the middle of nowhere as per usual.
All I want to know is if the royalty that lived in these places had to hike
themselves up here and how that all worked out.

We got to see the MOST BEAUTIFUL sunset up here. It was our first night in Jordan. It was the perfect temperature. We got to look out over the land and see the Dead Sea. We were with our favorite people. It was perfect. It was one of those moments that can't be captured in a picture. You just had to be there and take it in. These are the experiences I'll never forget.

Dr. Chadwick bore a powerful testimony about prophets and apostles. They never have it easy. But they've received a witness and they've devoted their lives to defending the Christ.

day two:
PETRA

let's be honest. the most important part about this day was the camel

we got there bright and early when it very first opened. and it was freezing outside.

the thing we loved the most about this day was complete FREEDOM! once we got through the siq, we got to spend the whole rest of the day exploring.

we walked through the canyon which made me feel like I was back in Utah. I love the feeling of being in the middle of natural wonders. and then we turned the corned which opened up to this.

This is the treasury. Petra is an ancient city that is absolutely incredible. The buildings are carved out of the rock which has a rose color to it. It was inhabited as early as 312 BC by the Nabateans.

We hiked up 850 steps to the monastery. It's unreal that these buildings are still here after all these years and are almost hidden. You feel like you're in a movie scene walking through this place. Actually, a movie was filmed here. INDIANA JONES! So naturally, our teachers played the theme song for us.

the wind was crazy today. by the end of this, i was a tangled mess of dirt.
it was worth every minute though.

this was one of the most entertaining moments of my life. look at our crew! people were literally stopping and staring at us. we just smiled and waved :) we even got the camels to trot at one point. I was crrrraaaacking up! camels really are the strangest animals. bucket list item 104 complete. check!

on the way out of the park we got to ride a horse! two animals in one day. impressive, i know. my horse's name was sunny! he didn't like to go very fast.

sometimes i just have to pinch myself because this life honestly feels like a dream.
what a blessing to see these amazing sites of the world!
