JORDAN part 2

November 6, 2015
day three:
AMMAN CITADEL

This is the ancient city of Philadelphia which was a city of the Decapolis where Jesus taught.

I forgot how cold it was until I'm looking back at these pictures and remembering how strange it felt to be needing to wear a jacket after 4 or 5 months of not needing one.

This is the wall that King David had Uzziah pushed over to his death as he tried to cover his tracks after sleeping with Bathsheba.

As you can tell from this picture, we were got in a sand storm!! Our second one of the semester.

This was one of those moments when I felt like we were sharing our testimonies here. We stood in this theater for who knows how long and we sang songs. Songs about Christ, songs about Christmas, hymns of praise! These girls were here on a field trip and they gathered round and listened to us. A completely different religion. A completely different culture. Yet we connected. Through smiles, through laughter, through pictures, through sharing what we know. Because they sang back! Music has always been an instant trigger or the spirit in my life and I hope they felt that. I hope the "light in our eyes" couldn't be ignored.

They asked if we could take a "duck face" picture haha!

 JABBOK RIVER

Here on the shore of the Jabbok River we talked about Jacob and his family. After he went to Peniel and received his new name he had to split up with his family because of a conflict that was happening. He was so willing to do whatever the Lord asked of him and just what was right in general. Once again, the theme of the disciples of Christ having to do hard things and make sacrifices came up. But these examples in the scriptures were always ready and willing regardless of what it would cost them or how uncomfortable it might be.
This one I just took off of google but I wanted you to see the contrast between what it looks like normally and what it looks like in a sandstorm.

Mustard plants! Inside these are the TINIEST little seeds which just happen to be the ones that Christ was referring to when he spoke about the kingdom of God and faith in comparison to a mustard seed.

JERASH

This is a place that we should all know more about! It was incredible! It was another city of the Decapolis and because it's a Roman city, there are a lot of remains left to see!
Our great professors and our tour guide!

We had a race in the hippodrome! It was so fun to sit in the stands and cheer our classmates on!

This was one of my favorite temples that we've visited! I think I've just been missing it a little bit extra lately. I hope we never take for granted the opportunity that we have to go to the most holy place on earth, the house of the true and living God, whenever we want.
The people here don't have that same privilege.

This is my friend Clayton and his green umbrella George.

GOOOOO COUGARS!!!! We sang the fight song which I haven't done for months.
It was invigorating!

I laugh whenever I see this picture because I had been squatting but definitely fell over right before the picture was taken haha!

day four:
KING ABDULLAH I MOSQUE

So the interesting thing about this mosque was not the mosque itself but the fact that there was a torrential DOWNPOUR on our way there. So we basically swam to the entrance. You think I'm kidding. But we were literally soaked and when we walked into the mosque there were leaks all over the ceiling so we got to listen to the sound of raindrops filling buckets as our guide reviewed the 5 pillars of Islam with us. Being damp is not the most enjoyable experience haha It was raining so much though that the roads started flooding!!

JORDAN CAR MUSEUM

hence we didn't get to go to the Jordan Museum and see cool archaeological finds. we went to a car museum. probably not my favorite thing in the world because I literally don't know anything about cars but I took a picture just to prove I was there.

JORDAN RIVER

By the time we got to the Jordan River in the afternoon it was HOT! Still so confused about all the weather we experienced this week.

13 ¶Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be sonow: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went upstraightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my belovedSon, in whom I am well pleased.
