christian quarter field trip

November 20, 2015
This was another field trip where we got to walk to the Old City and then hang out in churches all day. It was so fascinating to try to understand the purpose behind which one and which denomination they were and what they were commemorating.

I was dyiiiiiinnnggggg in this pic. They had told us to bring scarves for this ONE church but Jezz and I forgot to we had to wear this bright orange scarves together. I was just cracking up so much that I'm pretty sure tears started to fall down my face. Ya know those moments when something's not really that funny but you just get the giggles with one of your best friends haha!

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a place I visited many times throughout the semester. It commemorates the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. It has sections of many different denominations. Something about these churches is that they are so ornately decorated. Very different from what we're used to in LDS churches.

There is a Roman Catholic Church that used to be a hostel. People who stayed in the rooms would carve their names into the door. The HYDE that you see on this door is thought to be Orson Hyde when he came to visit for missionary work.

The monk at this church was so kind and gave us the full tour where we even got to go to the roof and look over Jerusalem. It was a beautiful morning!

One of the last churches we went to had a tower that our teachers told us we could go up the next day because we didn't have enough time during lunch. They did say we had about 10 minutes though so we took the challenge and RAN up the spiral staircase to the top of this tower. I was dizzy by the end but the view was gorgeous!

 Isn't this city INCREDIBLE??!
