quarantine

October 19, 2015
The past few weeks, well actually the past month or so, has been a little rough because there has been a lot of unrest in the city and surrounding areas. This normally would be quite frightening, but we feel so safe because we have so many people taking good care of us! Lots of sad things have happened and as a result, we have been quite restricted. On the plus side, we've gotten to know each other a lot better while spending all our time here in the Jerusalem Center.

Eventually there started letting us out to do structured activities. We would take vans that would go straight to our destination and then bring us right back. I've never spent so much time in a taxi. Often they smell like a weird mixture of smoke and cologne. We've also got to experience a lot of the crazy driving that occurs out on the streets of Jerusalem.

Here's some of the activities:

rockclimbing
I forgot how much I LOVED rock climbing!! It seriously makes me so happy and I wish I got to do it more! My arms were definitely feelin it the next though! We had an awesome group with us and it felt so good to get out of the center and take a little break from studying.

movie
We went to see the Martian! It was an awesome movie! It was in english with hebrew subtitles. It feels kind of weird to just do normal things in a foreign city.

israel museum
We actually had to do this for an assignment but museums are always fun! Especially when you actually understand a lot of the things you see because of what you've been studying. My favorite part was the birthday exhibit! I mean, it's always a good idea to celebrate your birthday all month long!

beware of the golden calves...

these are columns like the ones that would've been on Solomon's Temple!

this is the holy of holies at Arad, one of the places we went to on one of our very first field trips!

these are clay seals that they used for letters! I thought they were so fun to look at!

Yom Huledet Sameach in Hebrew!

love this tile

this is the four-horned altar from Beersheva where went to on a field trip

concerts
A group of us went to the Israel Philharmonic. It was phenomenal! I haven't been to a concert in a while so it was fun to go see something I'm so passionate about. They performed Beethoven's 9th Symphony which was AMAZING! There was also a piano soloist that performed before that and I absolutely loved the piece he played! It was a wonderful night!

PRAY FOR PEACE IN JERUSALEM!
