Mother I Love You, Mother I Do

May 14, 2013

I started a post a long time ago about how awesome my parents are and how much I love them because let's be honest...they're the best. And the most exciting part about that is I'm not the only one who thinks it! My parents are just the most amazing people on the planet and all of our friends both young and old just love them, even the ones who haven't met them haha!

So with that as a preface, I would just like to talk about one of my best friends, my mom. Next year, I won't be here. And I guess there's a first for everything, but I don't really like missing out on things. And Mother's Day would be an important thing to be at home for.

My mom is one of the most creative and talented women I know. She is amazing at creating decorations and invitations and cute envelopes or handouts or packages. Anything really, she can come up with something amazing. She takes fantastic pictures and I'm so grateful that my whole life is documented. She also is the best letter writer of all time which means that I am one lucky missionary :)

She is hilarious! Sometimes she just says the funniest things! The best is when her and Kenzie get on a roll and can't contain their laughter. Those moments are priceless.

She can handle anything. When people ask me what I've been doing since I've been home I just tell them that my family is so busy! You should see the calendar. There is rarely a time when we are all home at the same time. But somehow she manages to be the young women's president, make lunches and snacks, do the endless amounts of laundry and ironing, cook delicious meals, drive everyone a million different directions, take pictures, go to every event, and a billion other things I have failed to mention. She is so helpful and organized and our family would definitely be lost without her.

She is one of the greatest teachers I know. She finds every opportunity she can to teach morals, teach principles of the gospel, and ultimately teaches by her example. Sometimes it's so easy to say, "mom, I already know that!" but it's good to be reminded sometimes and as well all know, mom is always right.

She is so selfless and wants the best for each of us. She faithfully checks in on us and makes sure everything is going ok, checks grades to make sure we're doing what we're supposed to, reminding us of things we need to get done, helping us reach our potential.

She is my number one cheerleader. She is always telling me how smart I am, how beautiful I look, is amazed at my accomplishments and pretty much makes me feel on top of the world. Whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed or like I'm not doing a good job, she is there to remind me of all the things I'm doing well and encourages me to keep going.

She is the best listener in the world. At dinner we went around and said some of our favorite memories with mom. The first thing I thought of is how she listens to me no matter what. Every single day on the way home from school I would tell her about my day. After every orchestra trip, efy, and girl's camp she sat on the couch and listened to me go through every detail of every day regardless of how long it took. On my walk home from campus she was there to accompany me on the phone so it wasn't so boring and be a distraction from the cold or the length of the walk. And even with her incredibly busy schedule, she always makes time for me even if I'm on speaker phone or on the bluetooth in the car haha

My mom and I share a love for good books, fun games, traveling the world, the ocean, musicals, instrumental music, fun recipes, and so much more.

I'd like to say I'm gonna be fine not being able to talk to her every day for 18 months, but that might be a lie. It will be an adjustment but getting lost in the work with a smile on my face might do the trick.

Simply put, I love my mom with all of my heart and I don't know what I would do without her. I'm definitely one of the luckiest girls in the world and I wouldn't trade my family for anything.

Happy Mother's Day Mom, you deserve it! You are the best :)

And two very true quotes:

1. Home is where your mom is
2. Nothing is lost until mom can't find it

  1. This is such a sweet tribute to your dear mother.
If we lived close to each other, I work hard to secure her as a friend!
