especially for youth

June 27, 2015
I feel like my life is just becoming one dream come true after another. I have wanted to be an EFY counselor for a very long time. As with most things that happen in my life, I feel like I should be the poster child fro them because I am so passionate about them. My 4 years as a participant at EFY were pure bliss. I just ate it all up. The classes, my counselors, my companies, the session directors, the dances, the cheers, the games, participating in the variety show and the music program. I LOVED it. And because of the experience I had, it motivated me to be a counselor and give other youth the opportunity to have a similar experience that I did. The opportunity to strengthen their testimonies, to feel the spirit, to get answers, to have fun, and to make friendships.

It's amazing what the gospel can do when you truly live it and embrace it each and every day surrounded by others who are doing the same. Now that's not gonna be how it is our whole lives, but EFY gives us a chance to set some good habits and to see what life can be like when we do those good things and hopefully gives us the strength to continue to do them even after we return home.

My very first week was a shadow week which means I really did nothing.  Basically we just got paid to be a participant with a polo and a name tag and strictly observe our mentor counselor. Hence, a "shadow". Since I kind of am obsessed with EFY, I didn't feel like I learned that much about the structure of the week or the teaching or how to be a good counselor, but it was helpful to get some tips about some management things and more of the administrative type things that you don't see as a participant. A lot of behind the scenes things. But overall, it was a great week and it got me really excited for the rest of the summer!

Scripture: Jeremiah 24:7

We had the youngers and it's so funny to watch them interact and just the things that they come up with. I felt like they were pretty mature spiritually but that's about it ha! And then there's always those kids that just act like they're too cool to be there and you think they're getting absolutely nothing out of it and then on thursday night they bare their testimony and then you're like, "wow, they were actually paying attention and got something out of it!" They call Thursday "pay day" for the counselors because you get to see the fruits of your labors.

I'm excited for the rest of the summer and most definitely
for having my own group and being able to teach!

Something else I learned this week:

I was NOT made for this weather. Seriously dying walking all over campus.
*crossing fingers I get used to it*
